We all know how much I love my lipstick — you’ll barely ever find me without a color on! But I’m here to tell you that I really struggle in the winter, especially since I’ve moved back home to Maryland. Point in case, it is currently about 20 degrees out! To be honest, I don’t really know if cold sores are hereditary or not, but from a young age I knew I would suffer from them because of the nasty ones my mom would get. After about age 15 I started following in her footsteps. My doctor quickly recommended Herpecin L and I have never looked back. Yep, I’ve sworn by this product for at least 8 years now!
Herpecin L — My Winter Lip Saver
This product is more than just your everyday lip treatment -it’s the under-the-radar brand jewel. It is a unique, pharmacist-recommended product that does a superb job of providing instant relief from burning, itching, and oozing (yikes!), while at the same time protecting the lips with medication that speeds up recovery so you don’t have to suffer from cold sores for a week or longer. I also use it to prevent dry, chapped lips and a daily SPF too. It works awesome as a preventative treatment as well. You can easily order it online at walmart.com, which makes it super stress free when I run out!
I apply it every morning, plus prior to whenever I apply lipstick. I bet you never thought I’d be recommending Herpecin L as a lip primer but I totally am!
Let’s Talk About My Favorite Winter Lip Colors
Like I said, I really do wear lipstick everyday. I enjoy trying new products, along with sticking with my tried-and-true picks. Here are the four winter lip colors that are on my constant rotation!
I received this product in my latest Fab Fit Fun box. (See what I thought of the subscription box here.) This is truly a product I fell in love with. The matte lip crayon glides on instantly with velvety color, and it feels ultra-soft yet weightless on lips. Its pure matte color is buildable, with a lasting, matte finish. The other end includes a hydrating BB lip balm in a matching color that wraps lips in shiny color, leaving them moisturized, smooth, and super soft. This rich balm can be layered under your lip color as a moisturizing primer or over lip color to change your matte color to a shiny finish. It’s infused with coconut oil, cocoa butter, monhoi tahiti butter, peach oil, and olive fruit oil to help restore, regenerate, and protect. Plus, it has a custom magnetic sealing cap that keeps your makeup travel-friendly and spill-proof.
This is a sample size tube that I received as part of a Cyber Monday purchase from Sephora. I swear they must have a product radar on me, because I’ve literally been looking at this lipstick for years. I originally noticed that it was Blair from Atlantic-Pacific’s signature lip product, which obviously made me want to buy it right that second. But I kept stopping myself because of one thing: the word “liquid.” I’m not much of a lipgloss fan, so I assumed that because it was called “Liquid Lipstick” it was going to be like a gloss. Nope! I was wrong! It goes on smooth and dries quick. Seriously, every time I wear it I get compliments! I will soon be purchasing more colors.
We all know I’m an avid Aveda lover. (I’ve talked about them recently here and here!) My local salon has a lot of sales when it comes to their makeup, so when they do I snag all of the $5 lipsticks I can. Aveda’s lipsticks are a little cakey-er then any of the others I gravitate towards, but they do wonders for my lips and come in really vibrant colors! All of this Nourish-Mint Smoothing line are made with organic peppermint, vanilla and ginger. This Snap Dragon is a dark dark red that I save for nights out on the town.
This is one of my tried-and-true reds. Remember when I rounded up all of the best reds? This one was one of the first picks to make the cut! This is my favorite daytime red. It’s semi-matte, and stays in place all day long. All of NARS lipsticks are enriched with vitamin E to increase wearability and keep true color locked into place. They impart semi-matte color so that lips are left looking velvety and full-bodied with a sheer finish. I’m also an addict for their Schiap color.
