It’s time for some real talk here. This college student doesn’t have the time to get her color redone (or even touched up, really) every three-four weeks like suggested, and lord knows I definitely don’t have the budget for it! I was looking for a way of still pampering myself though, and let’s be honest I just needed some serious help in the hair color department. Hello roots!
Enter: John Frieda’s new Colour Care line! I jumped at the opportunity to try out these products, and decided to go with the Sheer Blonde® Go Blonder products. As my hair grows out the roots are getting darker and darker, where as I’d like for them to match the balayage I had professionally done a couple months back. That was my mom’s Christmas present to me, thanks Mom! I had read a lot of reviews about the Sheer Blonde® Go Blonder In-Shower Lightening Treatment, mainly because it’s the brands latest product! I chose to go with it when I saw it in the aisles at my local Walgreens, mainly because it’s completely safe for already color-treated hair. I’ve also been using the Sheer Blonde® Go Blonder Lightening Shampoo and Conditioner for about a week now, and I can already see a difference! Together they gradually lighten for a natural-looking sun-kissed blonde. Spring break, here I come!
What’s a little pampering without a fresh blowout?! I don’t do it often, but when I do I make sure it’s perfect so it’ll last me a few days. Start by making sure you hair is clean, preferably using conditioner too so your hair is super soft! If you use a conditioning product or heat treatment product, now is the time to use it. I also let my hair air-dry until it’s about 80% dry, that way the purpose of the blowout is mainly for styling.
Next, part your hair horizontally, sectioning it into top and bottom. Use a hair tie or clip to keep the top half up while you dry the bottom half.
Start from one side and work your way around your entire head. I swear by using a round brush and trustworthy blowdryer with a concentrated nozzle. (The little thing that most people throw away with the box.) Turn your ends underneath, creating a smooth polished look. Once the bottom is complete, let down the top and repeat these steps. Pro tip: Pull the final section of your hair towards the front of your face to finish off the blowout. By pulling it towards the front, it adds extra volume and really completes the full, healthy look!
The last thing is to blow-dry your bangs, if you have any. I like to style mine to the side. The trick here is to use your blowdryer and sweep them from left to right, right to left repeatedly. Finish going the direction you want them parted on. Before you’re done, I complete the look with the Sheer Blonde® Go Blonder Lightening Spray. Afterwards I run my fingers through my hair to prevent tangles.
I usually don’t venture my way into the hair care isles of drugstores, but the end cap grabbed my attention when I was picking up a few new lipsticks and my prescriptions. I love that Walgreens carries all of the latest product releases, I just love trying them out!
Also, don’t worry if you’re not trying to go blonder, they also carry lines for going brighter or deeper brunette! They’re currently buy one get one 50% off when you use your Balance Rewards Card in-store or online, between now and 1/30.
